Position Overview:
The Design Director will bridge strategic and creative leadership with design execution. They will oversee the design team at Vanderbrand, guiding the development and delivery of high-quality work across all outputs, including brand, print, digital, and environmental design. This role requires a highly organized, conceptually driven individual who thrives on managing complex timelines, leading creative reviews, and translating vision into practice.

The ideal candidate will have a proven ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams and deliver exceptional and innovative creative solutions. They must possess fluency in brand and design systems, expert-level knowledge of design tools, and excellent communication and presentation skills. This individual will work directly with the Creative Directors to ensure the Vanderbrand’s standards are upheld and will play a central role in mentoring, training, and growing the design team.

Experience:

  • 8 or more years at a creative agency or graphic design studio

Responsibilities:

  • Translate strategy and creative direction into actionable design concepts and outcomes
  • Oversee project timelines, delegations, and design execution
  • Ensure office-wide quality control of design outputs
  • Lead internal critiques and creative reviews
  • Review and approve major deliverables
  • Mentor and train Senior, Intermediate, and Junior Graphic Designers
  • Lead, motivate, and grow the design team

They will work closely with the Design Director to translate strategy and creative direction into comprehensive brand systems, visual identities, and design solutions across print, digital, and environmental applications.

The ideal candidate will have a portfolio that demonstrates conceptual clarity, technical excellence, and a refined design aesthetic. They must be confident in presenting work both internally and to clients. Expert-level proficiency in InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Figma, and motion design tools such as After Effects is required. The Senior Designer must be able to work both individually and collaboratively to maintain consistency and quality across all creative deliverables.
